Level 2 Technology Consulting can handle all your Desktop, Laptop, and Server deployment and management needs. Our staff is certified by Microsoft, Apple, Novell, Sun and Comptia in all the popular operating systems. We provide solutions from specifications to deployment. We also work with the manufacturers to maintain your systems. We even help you plan and budget for replacements when the time comes.
Desktops
To support your information workers, L2TC, can assist you with all your IT needs for your desktop systems. Level 2 supports most Desktop OS including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. We also support Mac OS X, SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED), and Ubuntu. We believe each has its place in business and each can be integrated into a well behaved, well managed IT environment. We do not support the "Home" versions of these operating systems but we can assist you in correcting you license so you may use the OS in your business.
We support the Desktop throughout the PC's lifecycle. The average lifecycle looks like this:
- The need for a new Desktop is identified
- The specifications for the new PC are defined
- The PC is purchased and deployed to the user (See #6)
- The PC is maintained and software is updated on a regular schedule. This continues for 3 to 5 years.
- The PC's performance begins to degrade, or the latest software will not run. At this time the lifecycle returns to 2.
- The old PC removed from the inventory and wiped of data. It is then sold, or gifted.
Laptops
Laptops provide a level of mobility many businesses are now using to their advantage. Besides the ability to take your computer with you, it can be important for telecommuting, or business continuity planning. As the power and storage in these portable systems increase many businesses see laptops as a replacement for desktop computers. Laptops services include all the desktop services but also have some special considerations.
- Wireless Access -- Providing training on use of Hot Spots and public Wi-Fi; as well as, the benefits and limits of in-business wireless activities.
- Data security -- Hard Drive encryption, extra security, and wireless security. Also remote data destructs if the laptop is stolen
- Physical security and recovery -- Theft prevention and tool to aid in recovery.
- Maintenance and accessories -- Extra wear-and-tear on the hardware, accidental damage, etc... Also many use laptops with extras like docking stations, or extra keyboards, monitors, etc. This would also include specialty hardware like projectors.
Servers
Servers and the operating systems they run are not like an end-user OS. Level 2 Technology Consulting specializes in supporting small businesses. We often recommend Microsoft Small Business Server and Essential Business Server. Each comes bundled with several applications and services that are core to a good business network.
We will also help you choose the correct hardware. Server hardware must run 24x7 and must be robust enough to handle both the disk access for shared services, but have enough RAM to run. There needs to be backups made for disaster recovery / business continuity, so we’ll assist in that as well.
We often use the word “server” for the hardware, the operating system, and in many cases, the application engine / service running on the OS and hardware. Licensing becomes confusing because Client Access Licenses are needed for the OS and the Service. L2TC will help you purchase the correct number any type of licenses.
L2TC primarily supports Microsoft's Windows Server line. We recognize that Microsoft may not be best for your business. You may have an existing environment you need support with. To provide the best service we can, Level 2 Technology Consulting also supports Novell, Linux, UNIX and Apple's OS X Server lines.
Other Operating Systems
As mentioned above, we recognize and support operating systems made by other vendors. L2TC's staff includes experts in SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop, Ubuntu, and even Apple's OS X (MAC OS). We pride ourselves on being able to integrate all these operating systems. In the mobile arena, we can support Windows Mobile; as well as, Blackberry, iPhones, Palm, etc...
